CEFN SAESON DEPUTY HEAD GIRL PUTTING HER LEARNING INTO PRACTICE

Holly Reynolds, our Deputy Head Girl has been applying the skills learned in BTEC Health and Social Care, by volunteering in a care home in Langland. Holly says ‘I am chatting to residents daily, with a vast majority suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer’s, each resident has a different need, with some bed bound, and others speeding around the place with zimmers!’

‘I’m currently making templates for the outside of the resident’s rooms, including a photograph of them, their former work employment and room number, I am also doing activities with them, to ensure those smiles never stop!’

The following picture shows Holly chatting to Betty from Brynfield Manor Care Home. Well done Holly, keep up the good work!!

MIKE PARRY ART AWARD

The 2020 competition is now live and is calling on anyone who has accessed substance misuse services past or present, throughout Wales, to submit a piece for the competition. The theme this year is ‘Life in Lockdown: Art in Isolation’. This theme will capture what people’s experience of the coronavirus lockdown has been.

This year there are three categories – Young People (Under 18s); Adults; and Group. All entries need to be submitted by 30th September.

All the information about this year’s competition including how to enter, T&C’s and entry criteria, can be found on our website

What is the Mike Parry Art Award?

Mike was a popular worker at Barod, who sadly passed away in January last year. Mike was both an enthusiastic yet very talented artist (and teacher) and subsequently this competition was set up in his name and was only fitting for such a competition to be established to carry on his legacy.
