Update to Parents/Carers – School Closure Tuesday 6th January 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,Following further efforts by our staff to clear our site today and a late afternoon reassessment, we unfortunately need to remain closed tomorrow. The main reasons are as follows:
- The bus bays that sit outside the school boundary have not been gritted by the council and we do not anticipate them being gritted again this evening. The area is treacherous and we do not feel that school buses can enter/exit this area safely.
- The parent/drop off zone on the school site cannot be opened due to the amount of ice. This is a windy lane that sits on a gradient. Based on both of the above the bus bays and the drop off zone, pupils cannot get on to the site via vehicle safely, by bus or car.
- The pavements leading up to the school in the upper half of Cimla Hill are covered in snow on both sides, which will freeze overnight. Pupils travelling by foot will not be able to walk to the school gates safely and this may cause them to try and walk on the road which would create another safety concern. We perceive that the road itself will also be icy again by morning, although it has been manageable in the later part of today.
- We also do not have a suitable fire assembly point as our pitch/astroturf areas are fully covered by snow and will turn to ice by the morning. Temperatures over night are forecast as -4 degrees.
To maximise learning progress during tomorrow, all teachers will set work for timetabled lessons tomorrow. The work will be set on Class Charts, in the homework section, which means that pupils and parents/carers can view it for each of the five lessons of the day. We ask that parents/carers please help to encourage their child(ren)’s work completion throughout the day as best as possible. Teachers will award positive points for work completion and will ensure the work is assessed and checked properly upon normal return to school.
We anticipate being able to open on Wednesday as there is rain forecast tomorrow afternoon. We will provide another update by 5pm at the latest again tomorrow.
Thank you, once again, for your support and collaboration. We hope to continue to achieve the best balance for safety and learning.
Yours sincerely,
C Jones
